How To Get Rid Of Junk Before A Move

Moving to a new space is one of the best opportunities to purge some unwanted items. Let’s be honest, no one wants to move with things they don’t need or want any more. Thankfully, there are plenty of options that make it easier to part ways with you old things. You could even make some money doing it!

Create a list system

Start by identifying what items you can do without and a must keep items. If you can break it down into basic categories (keep it simple), it will help the process of getting rid of old thing go a lot smoother. For example, outgrown kids clothes, books you’ll never read again, old toys, kitchen clutter, holiday decorations from the 90s.

Start from one room or area at a time is a great way to stay organized and on time to insure that you’re all set before your moving day.

Best part of posting in Facebook is you can see the buyers profile before accepting to have any transaction to occur. Always stay safe, never meet anyone in dark areas.

  • try to set up the sale on weekend and after 5pm

  • go paperless with E-transfers or pick up a Square reader for $10 from Staples to accept most card payment methods

  • Paypal is a great option for accepting payments.

Donate

There are plenty organizations that will accept donation of household appliances, clothes, old books, furnitures, and more. Some will even come pick up you stuff of free!

Disposal

Once you have gone through your items there will most likely be some items that are better of in the trash or for recycling. Collect these items aside in one area of your home, in trash bags or dismantled. And find your local dump or recycling centre. If you are unable to transport the items yourself, you can arrange a pick up from on of the plenty of companies in your area.
